Fresh from Galway Film Fair, London based Starline Entertainment has just announced picking up worldwide rights on a brand new arts documentary exploring the life and work of renowned Irish/American painter, sculptor and printmaker, Tighe O’Donoghue/Ross, philosophically entitled Why Is There Anything Instead of Nothing, directed by Patrick O’Shea and produced along with Aidan Stanley for Cork based Southernman Films.

Once compared by ARTS Magazine to William Blake, New York born Tighe O’Donoghue/Ross, whose works are included in the permanent collections of The Smithsonian Institute in Washington DC and London’s Victoria and Albert Museum as well as the Bibliothèque Nationale in Paris, is seen by many as a modern visionary.

Having enjoyed enormous commercial success and international acclaim throughout the ‘70s and ‘80s while living in the States, he has since consciously withdrawn from the public art scene, relocating to his ancestral home in the wild mountains of Killarney, Ireland, where he is now the officially recognised hereditary chieftain of the O’Donoghue’s of Ross. Something of a national treasure in the Emerald Isle, his most iconic works on open display include a 16 foot high bronze statue of St. Brendan the Navigator in County Kerry and a specially commissioned set of stained glass windows called “Dawn & Dusk” in St. Mary’s Cathedral, Killarney. Alongside brand new paintings, many of the works featured in the film have never before been exhibited.

Starline’s Carey Fitzgerald, who negotiated the deal with O’Shea, commented “Why Is There Anything Instead of Nothing is a beautifully realised exploration of the creative process as witnessed through the eyes of a unique and extraordinary talent”, adding, “We have every confidence the film will resonate internationally and we can’t wait to share it with our extensive portfolio of buyers.”
